Kosambari recipe - Moong Dal Salad

Kosambari is a very easy salad which can be served as main item when preparing lunch for guest and functions. Here I am giving you this recipe along with pictures.

Kosambari is also called as Hesarubele Kosambari. This can be prepared in different variations. You can add green chilli or pepper or both. You can also add mixed herb to this which gives you nice flavor. Grated coconut can also be added to this.

Ingredients for Kosambari Recipe:

  • Carrot – ¼ cup grated
  • Cucumber – ¼ cup finely chopped
  • Raw Mango – ¼ cup grated
  • Moong Dal (yellow moong dal) – ¼ cup
  • Lemon – 1 tbsp
  • Green chilles – 2 slitted
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves few for garnishing

Method:

  • Sock moong dal in water for 30 to 45 minutes in water. After that drain and keep it aside.
  • Grate raw mango, carrot and keep aside.
  • Chop cucumber and keep aside.
  • Mix socked moong dal, grated carrot, grated raw mango, chopped cucumber, green chlli, salt and lemon well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.

Notes:

  • I prefer to chop cucumber than grating as it will ooze out more water.
  • If you are grating the cucumber squeeze out water from it.
  • If you dont like the raw smell and taste of moong dal you can fry with a tbsp of oil for 2 to 3 minutes. After it is completely cooled mix it with the other ingredients.
  • Add salt and lemon before serving because it will make the vegetables added to ooze out more water.
  • You can also add pepper or green chilli or the combination of both.
  • You can also temper it by adding mustard seeds, Cumin seeds and curry leaves.
