Beetroot Rice - Beetroot Sadham

Beetroot Rice is a very healthy lunch recipe. This recipe can be prepared easily and more suitable for lunchbox. Beetroot rice is prepared by adding spices and beetroot which will be very flavorful and tasty. This rice can be prepared along with curd rice and papad which will be great combo for lunch. Here I explained this recipe with step by step procedure along with picture.




Ingredients:


  • Cooked rice – 1 cup
  • Beetroot – 1 cup grated
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Split urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Channa dal / Kadala paruppu – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli – 2 finely chopped
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Cinnamon stick – 1 inch
  • Cloves – 2 nos
  • Garam masala powder – ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves - 5 nos
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves finely chopped



Method:

  • Cook rice and allow the cooked rice to cool completely by adding little oil. I usually add 3 cups water for 1 cup rice but for this I add 2 cups of water for 1 cup  of rice.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle, add bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, channa dal, split dal allow it to slightly brown. Add green chilli, curry leaves and hing.
  • Add chopped onions and saute for a minute.
  • Add grated beetroot and mix well.
  • Add garam masala and allow it to cook completely.
  • After it is cooked add it to the cooked rice and mix well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaf and serve.
Serve along with curd rice and papad or with raita of your choice.

Note:

  • Dont serve it immediately give some time so that flavor will get mixed.
  • Cook the rice with less water than usual so that the rice will not be sticky.
