Ragi Semiya - Ragi(Finger Millet) Vermicelli

Ragi semiya is a very easy breakfast recipe. Here I am giving you this recipe with step by step procedure with pictures. This is the healthy version of semiya using finger millet.

This can be served with coconut chutney, curd, sugar etc. Ragi is very good for health and also very rich in calcium.

Ingredients for Ragi Semiya:

Ragi Samiya – 1 cup
Onion – 1 chopped lengthwise
Salt to taste

To Temper

Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
Split urad dal – 1 tsp
Channa dal / Kadala paruppu – 1 tsp
Green Chilli – 1 finely chopped
Ginger – 1 inch finely chopped
Curry leaves 5 nos

Method:

  • Soak semiya in water for 2 minutes with little salt added to it. Soaking  more than 2 minutes will make it sticky.
  • Drain the water completely and steam it in the idly cooker for 5 minutes.
  • Take out, transfer it to the colander and show it in the running water and keep aside and allow the water to drain completely.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and allow to crackle. Add urad dal, channa dal and allow it to slightly brown then add ginger, green chilli and curry leaves.
  • Then add chopped onions and saute for a minute.
  • Add cooled ragi vermicelli and mix until all the water are observed. Adjust salt. Serve warm.
Serve with coconut chutney, curd or sugar of your choice.

  • I used Anil Ragi Vermicelli.
