Tomato Onion kadayal / Tomato Onion Masiyal

Tomato Onion Kadayal is an easy breakfast recipe using onions and tomatoes. We can prepare this recipe in 20 minutes. This goes very well with idli and dosa. Here the recipe is explained with step by step procedure along with pictures.


Ingredients:


Onions – 2 finely chopped
Tomato – 3 finely chopped
Coresly grinded coriander seed – 1 tsp
Garlic – 2 or 3 chopped
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Hing – less than a pinch
Green chilli – 1 finely chopped
Coconut grated – 1 tbsp (Optional)
Salt to taste



Method:

  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter. Add cumin seeds, green chilli, garlic and allow the garlic to slightly brown and add hing, turmeric powder, curry leaves.
  • Add chopped Onions and saute for a minute or until raw smell goes.
  • Add salt, coresly grounded coriander seeds and mix well.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and allow to cook.
  • After it is completely cooked switch off the flame.
  • Using the wooden tool as shown in the figure and  mash the gravy. In Tamil it is called as Mathu. You can also use blender also to mash. 
  • If you adding grated coconut add at this stage mix well and serve.

Serve this tomato onion kadayal with idli or dosa.

Note:

  • Mashing with the wooden tool (mathu) will give you a better taste than using blender.
  • Adding grated coconut is purely optional.
