Masala Chaas Recipe - Flavored Buttermilk


Masala Chass is a cool summer drink with a twist of masala in curd(yogurt). This is the perfect North Indian post lunch drink. Here I explain this with picture.




Ingredients for Masala Chaas:


  • Curd – 1 cup
  • Chilled water – ¼ cup
  • Green chilli - 1 deseeded & finely chopped
  • Chaat masala – 1/8 tsp
  • Roasted cumin powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Ginger – ½ inch grated
  • Black Salt – 1/16 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/16 tsp
  • Mint leaves – 3 to 4
  • Coriander – finely chopped
  • Asafetida – less than a pinch
  • Salt to taste


For Garnishing:

  • Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Mint leaves few
  • Roasted cumin powder or chaat masala less than a pinch
  • Ice cubes few (optional)


Measuring Conversion:

  • 1/8 tsp – Dash
  • 1/16 tsp - Pinch




Method:


  • Add 1/4 cup of curd, chopped green chilli, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, black salt, pepper powder, salt, mint leaves, coriander leaves, ginger, asafetida into a blender.
  •  Blend it till smooth. You can use mixie or hand blender for blending.
  • Add remaining curd, chilled water and blend until it becomes frothy.
  •  Serve with ice cubes (if adding) and garnish with coriander or mint leaves and a pinch of chaat masala or roasted cumin powder.

Notes:

  • Use fresh curd for better taste
  • Masala Chaas taste better when served thick so try adding  less water. You can add more or less water according to your preference.
  • Adjust the masalas' according to your preference.
